Savannah Georgia
Old town Savannah is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It
is a top ten romantic destination and a must see for any student or lover
of American history. There is more to learn about Savannah than can be
included in one Web page or even one Web site. That's because there is
so much to Savannah that is subtle and not big enough to capture everyone's
attention. It is the special few that take the time to notice the little
things that make Savannah a special place. Take a trip to the Georgia
coast and stop for a few days in Savannah and enjoy the subtle things
that make Savannah, Georgia special.
Things to See and Do in Savannah
River Street
River Street is a lot of fun, but to be totally honest it's something
of a tourist trap. Don't let that stop you from spending a few hours on
River Street though because there are a few great restaurants and the
sunset shows are a blast. The hotels on and around River Street are also
very convenient to the town and the action if that is something you desire.
The cheese comes from the tacky T-shirt shops that seem to dominate the
area, but it is redeemed somewhat by the River Street Sweets -
get the pralines!
Old Town Savannah
and the Squares
The real jewel of Savannah is her squares and the beautiful homes that
surround them. The best of Savannah is not had in a tourist shop but on
the streets. You can spend days walking the streets and viewing the amazing
homes that date back to Georgia's early days. A fun home to tour for Midnight
in the Garden of Good and Evil fans is the Mercer House located
on Bull Street.
Bonaventure Cemetery
Just like Savannah, Bonaventure is one of the most special places in the
world. This haunting, yet beautiful, cemetery sits next to the river and
slowly watches time pass by as those that built Savannah rest peacefully.
The unique memorials surrounded by the Spanish moss covered trees make
Bonaventure a photographer and artist dream come true. Bonaventure Cemetery
is a must stop while visiting Savannah. Just be mindful that this is a
graveyard and family members often visit as well so be respectful and
quiet.
Savannah's Beach
If you want to make your Savannah trip more interesting try heading over
to Tybee Island for a fun day on the beach. Tybee is
a small island about fifteen minutes outside of town and has a few fun
things to do other than hanging out in the sand. You can view the and
old fort and museum and climb the stairs to the top of an old Tybee
lighthouse. If you like being near the ocean consider getting
a hotel in Tybee and driving to Savannah each day for sightseeing.
