North Georgia Mountains

From the foothills of the Eastern Blue Ridge to the peaks of the Cumberland's in the west, and all the valleys and ridge in between, the mountains of north Georgia are filled with flora, fauna, rivers and streams. You can go rock climbing, hiking, camping, fishing, or searching for waterfalls. If you prefer water fun, then you can spend a day canoeing Conasauga River in the Cahutta Wilderness or go swimming and boating in the lake at the Conasauga Recreation Area in Chatsworth. And, if you love to go hiking, then this is the place for you! The Cahutta Wilderness in the western Blue Ridge Mountains has 95 miles of trails, ranging from easy to very difficult. As you hike, you will see waterfalls, unique rock outcroppings, and interesting flowers like the weeping long grass, or Dutchmen's Breeches.

In the Eastern Blue Ridge is the Tallulah Basin where you can enjoy horseback riding, hiking, fishing for trout in the Tallulah River Basin, or picnic while sitting on the rock outcroppings. You may choose to set up camp at the Tate Branch Campground and hike to an amethyst mine, and later, sleep out under the stars.

Black Rock Mountain State Park in Mountain City, Georgia is another one of many north Georgia's state parks. The park has steep cliffs of dark granite and is Georgia's highest state park. The park has 6 peaks that are over 3,000 feet in elevation and covers more than 1,800 acres. The park has several overlooks and on a clear day, you can see as far as 80 miles. You will find wildlife exhibits; trail maps, a log cabin exhibit, nature guides, hiking trail guides and many other ways to experience the Black Rock Mountains.

The beauty of Georgia's mountains awaits you, so don't delay-it's a great ways to spend a few days!
