Helen Georgia
If you are going to spend a weekend in north Georgia you must visit the
little town of Helen. This mountain town is a little bit cheesy, but it's
also a lot of fun if you let yourself enjoy it. There really is nothing
better than tubing down the river through Helen on a hot day, or hanging
out in a beer garden during Helen's October Fest, or simply walking the
streets and visiting the tourist shops. Helen is tourist trap designed
to look like a Bavarian village and has been pleasing people from all
over since the early 1970s. You will have a hard time finding a Georgian
that hasn't spent some time in Helen, and after spending a few hours walking
the cobblestone streets you will know why this is a favorite Georgia
travel destination.
Of course there is more than just shops in Helen. You can also spend
a day fishing the clear, trout filled Chattahoochee River
that winds through and around the little town. Also, there are dozens
of great hiking trails just minutes from Helen. A favorite,
but crowded, trail is the Raven Cliffs trail that leads
to a stunning waterfall. The best time to visit Helen is in the fall when
the leaves are changing, but this is also the busiest time of the year.
Helen, GA
Helen is located about 1 1/2 hours from Atlanta and is easy to get to from
most other north Georgia destinations.
