Athens Georgia

Athens Georgia is one of the great cities of Georgia. It is not only the party capital of Georgia but it's also the home of The University of Georgia and numerous agricultural centers. Athens sits just over an hour north east of Atlanta. It is close enough for those living in Atlanta to pop in for a Saturday game but still far enough away from Atlanta to isolate it from the ways of the big city. Athens is a special place with a rich history but the history that most people know about started with the B52s and REM. Due to the university, the music, downtown being next to the campus, and a dozen other reasons Athens is a very progressive town - while still being genuinely Southern. Come to Athens to enjoy a fall football game or a spring outdoor concert. Athens is a top cultural destination for Georgia and has been nicknamed the "Europe of the South."
